Great Off Leash Suggestions

Happy Wednesday. Being off leash can be an extremely enjoyable experience for both dog and owner. The Bellingham Herald posted this article awhile back that gives some important information about where to go to "unleash" your dog walking passion. Have a great day.

Although I haven't been to all the parks listed in the article, these are my favorite:

*Arroyo Park trails
  • This is a great place because sometimes you can go there and not see anybody. It is nicely shaded which works well with light rain (great canopy) or extreme sun (nice shade). It can get a bit muddy so take shoes with good traction.
*Little Squalicum Park
  • The parking is a bit strange but the trails are nice, minus the mosquitos during the summer or moist weather times. You can follow trails that cross over an abandoned railroad track all the way to Cornwall Park if you're in for the long haul.
*Lake Padden Dog Park
  • While probably one of the most used areas in Bellingham, it is also one of the most beautiful. Many of the trails (like the Horsetrails behind the lake) are often completely deserted if you're willing to go off the beaten path. There are multiple offshoots that can provide hours of walking/running/hiking or jogging. The dog park itself is one of the greatest places to meet all kinds of dogs and people! Bellinghamites consider this park to be a second home to them and their dog. A great place to socialize a puppy, meet other dog lovers and just plain have a great time.
*North Lake Whatcom Trail (Hertz Trail)
  • A five and a half mile, flat, walk along the border of Lake Whatcom will provide you and your dog with a peaceful adventure any time of the day. This path can be very busy during peak times and weather but deserted during light rain or cold weather. When you park at the trailhead, if you go off to the left, a steep trail cuts up the mountain with beautiful views of Lake Whatcom. If you are looking for a bit more demanding hike/walk for your dog or you, take the left way up.

As per usual, Dogspot is an opinionated website. These are my thoughts about the places I've gone and discovered. Do you have any suggestions?
